at the movies

I flexed some time this week so that I could head home after a mid-afternoon appointment for some lab work. My DH and I took in a late afternoon showing of The King's Speech, with Eve Best, Claire Bloom, Helena Bonham Carter, Colin Firth, Michael Gambon, Guy Pearce, and Geoffrey Rush (who was also one of 6 executive producers). Quite an ensemble cast, and a great movie!

The film's title is a double entendre, as the future king of England is treated by various experts for a speech impediment, and he's called upon to deliver speeches in service to his father and current king, played by Michael Gambon. The docudrama delves into his personal past, and life-long friendship that develops between Firth's and Rush's characters. Great cast ... but I said that already, didn't I?! And a great period piece! See it if you can!
