Black, white, and a splash of color is one of my fav color combinations, used on today's card for a buddy of mine. I'd recently picked up the friend BK stamp so masked that on a portion for the background (stamped off a couple times to make it faded), then added the sentiment and butterfly, inspired by Laurie's card.
Today's thank you card is for this week's Tuesday Trigger: Squares to Cherish challenge over on the Moxie Fab World blog, inspired by the colors in the pictured quilt, below. These were the first three colors of distress stain that I'd purchased, just within the last couple of weeks too. Strange coincidence, eh?! They come in bottles with dauber applicators, so I just daubed some of each color on the stamp, spritzed it with water, and inked the card stock, then mounted and popped up the matted piece. Easy peasy!

I was out supporting the local economy this weekend and foolishly told my stampin' buddy Pat that I didn't need her extra coupons to use at Jo-Ann's ... 'cuz I was originally only heading there to check out bunny buttons. I perused the buttons (found some cute bunny and chicks and cheshire cat ones), an ensemble gift pack for something coming up shortly, and then headed to the checkout to peruse the stamping mags before checking out (FYI, at least our local Flint store has started carrying the Northridge Publishing mags). Turning the corner to the checkout line, I came across some dollar stamps, at which time I promptly placed my cart out of the way and started checking the stamps out. I limited myself to 11, but had about 20 in my grasp at one point.
I've loved these snowflake punches since I first spotted 'em ... dunno why, as I'm not especially fond of winter, LOL! Don't get me wrong - I DO love the change of seasons; I just think winter lasts way too long in comparison to the other seasons. I've always liked picture series, stamp sets, needlework designs, etc where one item repeats for each season. That's one thing that I noticed about my DH back in our dating days; he had framed seasonal pics he'd taken of a barn that was near his place. But, I digress ...
My eldest brother's always had a thing for owls and in his late teens had a owl stone statue that he'd painted the eyes in day-glo colors. I think it's currently perched on a landing leading up to the 2nd floor of my folkes' house. Anyway, owls always make me think of him, so I made his Valentine's Day card today using one and utilizing the latest CPS148 sketch challenge. It's a 2-color card and both the smaller layers are matted and popped up using dimensionals. The ribbon was a close match but from a ribbon share of a couple years back. I'm a hoarder so have plenty remaining, LOL!
Every now and then I'm called upon to make a card for someone at work, and this one's for Beth's friend. They travel a lot together, so I used the boat and loaded presents in the little dinghy. It's based on the CPS144 sketch. I'm hooked on sketches and almost always start cards using 'em. So, do the papers I used make you think of starry skies, sandy beaches, and the water? Sigh ... it didn't to my DH! The "sandy" background is stamped repeatedly using a "birthday" definition stamp, and the circle and square and puffs of smoke are all popped up using dimensionals of varying heights. I smudged ink around the circle piece to give it a bit more definition.
Happy Thanks giving, all! I hostessed our family get- together today, and both my local sibs, a niece, and my Mom were able to attend. My older brother will be in town over the weekend so we'll get to see him too, but it didn't work out for him to stop over today.
I stopped by one of my local stamping stores a few weeks ago after seeing a similar acorn on the Web and thought I'd e-mailed myself the link to give credit where credit's due ... but now can't find that e-mail. Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most, y'know?! This cutie is made using a couple die cuts - I folded the lighter card stock in half and used a large uppercase "U," and I folded the darker card stock AFTER using a labels die. It may be hard to see the clear stamp next to the card - it's another squirrel, this time part of a Hero Arts set, holding out a heart, and I used the Kitchen Sink's "nuts about you" sentiment on the inside of the card. Right now it's buried within a group of Sudoku puzzles next to my DH's favorite chair.
Noel (get it? ... there's no "L" (wink!))! I couldn't let July fade into August without at least ONE Christmas card, now, could I?! This one's based on the CPS124 sketch and loosely based on the Late Night Stampers Yahoo Group Christmas in July challenges. Boy, I'm running behind, tho' - I printed that sketch out on July 11th. I'd planned on a couple Christmas cards and never quite got to the other one, so it'll have to be later, hopefully this weekend!
Here's the last card to share from this past weekend's Hero Arts 2009 catty preview. I like how this main image includes a border of fun birthday-related words around the main picture. They remind me of the Technique Tuesday Borderline stamp sets I LOVE that I've used in past cards (you can search on the "TT" label at right to scope 'em out).

"Black Friday," besides being referred to as the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season, is the topic of today's challenge at Stamp Something's weekly challenge blog and Saturday's OCC's snowmen/snowflake challenge. Me? I prefer to lay low the day after Thanksgiving and have picked up presents thruout the year, tho' I'm not done shopping yet by any means.
This is a Hero Arts version of Rudolf, the red-nosed reindeer, complete w bling for nose! A Hero Arts rep stopped at some stamping stores in Michigan this past week, and one stop was to my LSS, Capture-A-Memory. I ended up supporting the local economy and purchased a few embellishments of theirs, a new line for my LSS ... plus some Autumn Leaves stamps that I hope to ink tomorrow!
Yep ... I've finally started on Christmas cards! This past Thursday I went to a Hero Arts workshop at my LSS where we made 4 cards. This is my fav of those we made; isn't it a cute penguin? And, while I pretty much lean toward muted tones and prefers burgundy/dark green for Christmas colors, I sure do like the crispness and simplicity of this one!

I hope everyone's having a t'riffic Easter! Here's the card I made for my sweetie for today. He always picks me up the PRETTIEST cards, and today mentioned he usually feels they're inferior and wonders why he even does it, as I've been making my own cards the last couple years and he thinks they're so much nicer than what he can purchase at the stores. OK, everybody together now ... Aaawwwww! The man can certainly talk the talk! I'm gonna extend his contract, I tell ya! Anywho, this one's for him ... based on Taylor's TECC8 sketch challenge.
