September make-'n-take

I've been taking part in a continuing project make- 'n-take class that started at a local paper crafts store that shut down in May 2013 but thankfully the lovely and talented Joyce Johnson has continued the class out of her home (thanx Joyce!). It's offered in either a 6x6 or 12x12" version, but one seems too small and the other too large to me (thinking Goldilock here?!) ... anywho, here's this month's two page spread, slightly altered as I make 'em in an 8x8" format!

And can I take a moment to gush over Simple Stories? I love Love LOVE their DP and this one's no exception. It's from their Year-o-graphy line, and I found the last remaining 6x6 pad at the Sterling Heights Archiver store on a recent shopping expedition w my stamping buddy Kim!

So, do you have a favorite paper vendor?

do you want fries with that?

this cute hamburg card and fries carton set was this weekend's make -'n- take at my favorite local stamping store, Capture-a-Memory. the hamburger's made from assorted punches and dies, and popped up on what appears to be a napkin on top of a red checkered tablecloth. cute, eh?! the CAM folkes told me that Jill found it on Pinterest.

stamps: only one that I know of, 'cuz I purchased the last one the shop had in stock, is the Judith AA-40 ant!

die: it's one the CAM folkes have in their store. if you purchase your paper/card stock there, many of their dies are free to use, but some are for members' use only. I'm not sure what this one was.

gals night out at the movies

well, things don't always go as planned ... but it's interesting that this Saturday's make-'n-take ended up being movie-related as I got together w friends on Thursday to watch a video. Sue's DVD player was on the fritz, so after a while trying to work with it, we eventually gave up and instead watched an NCIS rerun while we enjoyed each other's company and had pizza, fresh fruit, and angel food cake for supper. getting together w friends is always a nice treat tho, and now perhaps Sue will be looking into an update to a blu-ray player?!

today's movie-themed make-'n-take included this sweet popcorn treat box and filmstrip/ticket card - both using a Tim Holtz stamp set. sweet, eh?! both the film strip and popcorn box were from dies that CAM (store link at right) carries. anyone can use them so long as they purchase the card stock from the store. I'll probably be back to make more. thanx for the inspiration, Jill, and I'll see you next week!

happy Father's Day, PB!

I'm playing catch-up and wanted to share the Father's Day card I gave my DH this month. It was a CAM make-'n-take led by the lovely and talented Karen at CAM yesterday, and I don't think I'd ever made a card using this type of format before. We cut a card stock "tube" of sorts, then glued the interior kraft card stock base to the smaller portion, and decorated the base of the card stock tube. In the picture at left you can see that the right-most area of the card - perhaps an inch - works as a slider card. The interior portion is simply inserted into the card stock tube. We used some distress stain on the mini envelope that's mounted on the top of the card, and when I got home I found that I had the perfect size "HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!" sentiment in my stash. The inside sentiment was PC-generated (using Architext and Lucida Handwriting fonts) and the "you're a classic" sentiment just seemed perfect to go with the classic card on the base! I printed it on vellum card stock and attached that to the kraft base. Easy peasy to make but it looks so much more difficult, don't you think?!

Almost all materials were provided by CAM so no deets today.

Mother and Child Mother's Day cards

Long time, no post! Hi folkes!

Here's a couple of cards intended for my sister and her daughter for tomorrow ... and I'm hoping to see them at my brother's house tomorrow for a Mother's Day cookout and visit w my eldest brother who's in visiting from Maryland! My sister's fav color is purple and the other's intended for my niece. Mom's card will be posted in the morning while my DH is watching some F1 race.

Hope you're having a t'riffic weekend!

playing w dies at CAM

The local paper craft store has shy of a gazillion but let's just say a LOT of dies, and most are free to use for all who enter the shop so long as you pick up your paper there. Others are reserved for those with memberships - it's cheap, and the benefits far outweigh the cost, IMHO. Two of our Saturday morning make-'n-take sessions are continuing series, and this one, led by the lovely and talented Karen, is one of those. We just completed a series where we made 2-pg 6x6" scrapbook pages. Now we're starting one where Karen's hoping to share new techniques some may not have ever tried.

Today's included a new-to-me die that she in advance used to cut out two pages of DP and two chipboard pieces. It would make a great ornament or small scrap book.

We assembled the birdcage using the distressed DP on both sides of the back solid piece. We stained the front cage portion, then added a chunkier style embossing powder than I'm used to using, and added embellishments. We used paint dabbers and/or distress inks on the butterfly and cage, painted a thin coat of Stickles on the flowers using paint brushes, and sprayed shimmer mist on our butterflies (mine was first painted using the dabber).

CAM make-'n-take

This past Saturday's project at CAM was a simple Easter card. Jillibeans wondered whether it may be TOO easy ... but I don't think so! Variety is the spice of life, and you need to offer a range of projects to appeal to paper crafters of all levels of ability, right?! We repeatedly stamped a Stamps by Judith carrot for a background, colored it in using a variety of water-based markers, then popped up a bunny die and attached his bow-die and eye ... easy peasy and voilĂ ! Here's my first Easter card!

CAM make-'n-take

Another in our continuing series of 2-sided folders to be eventually joined together in a mini book of sorts, each page includes a greeting card, bookmark, and list of dates to remember. They're themed each month, and this month's version is all about love! Led by the lovely and talented Joyce, I'm SO geeked about this project! We're using Basic Grey DP card stock for the pages/folders.

No deets today - the DP's retired BasicGrey, and the heart die's from Tim Holtz ... SWEET, eh?!

CAM make-'n-take

Here's a show-'n-tell of today's make-'n-take where we made our choice from two cards and a couple of cute mailboxes to cover some nugget chocolates. It was a relatively quick card as the lovely and talented Jill had the ingredients ready for us, so I was out of there with time to shop before heading to meet some friends for dinner and a movie (more on that later).

For the cute mailboxes we matted some DP with pink or red card stock, wrapped it around the candy, and added a raised arm so the mailman knows there's something inside! Instead of a flag we have a small heart at the top of the arm; Jill found some teeny tiny conversation heart DP that fit her hand held mini heart punch perfect! Stinkin' cute projects, Jill!

There's always something on special from the make-'n-takes and today was no exception - the embossing folder and heart punches were on sale today. And for members, you ask? 50% off Tim Holtz dies (except the brand new stock)! Yes, a couple hopped into my basket - I took home the mini reindeer and 25 set for half off, and a new die called Autumn Gatherings which has different leaves, branches, wheat, acorns, etc to make a cute wreath or border or whatever using my monthly 25% off coupon!

Speaking of Tim, have you seen any of the new product videos from CHA Winter? Some new markers, specialty inking paper, embossing diffusers, dies, card stock packs, etc. Sigh ... see some of the vimeo videos from Mark and Christine here!

me and you - what a team!

I learned this past Saturday that cardinal red is Jill's fav red - that's the basis of this red and white valentine card from CAM's make-'n-take. It's a nice bright red! I collect cardinals. It's something I originally started collecting for my Mom, as it's one of her fav birds. We're lucky to have some that regularly visit our bird feeders, but she spots them far and few between at her home. So, about 15 years ago I started picking her up on most Christmases. My sister got into the act too, and now every now and then Mom will stroll around the house counting all the cardinals she's amassed!

CAM, you've done it again!

On Saturdays you'll usually find me at CAM, participating in a make-'n-take project. They generally lead us in the making of a card or small 3D project, using supplies that they offer at a discounted rate to us that day. Once a month we work on a continuing project (last year it was a recipe book), and this year's is designed and presented by the lovely and talented Joyce. We're assembling a booklet of sorts, consisting of two-sided pocket pages in which we'll insert a tag and card themed for the month, all made from Basic Grey DP. And I LOVE Basic Grey DP! Count me in! We'll add a chip board cover and assemble them when we're done with all twelve months pocket pages. Here's today's pocket page project. Sweet, eh?!

No deets today; all supplies provided by CAM (where make-'n-takes are free to members, fee-based for others)

CAM make-'n-take

If you were in the Flint MI area today and happened to stop by Capture-a-Memory, you were in for a treat as the lovely and talented Jill led the group in the making of this cute card, one of two projects for the weekend's make-'n-take session (they're held most Saturdays from 12-2 p.m.)!

The DP's two-sided, providing you a choice in your "bags," and even the dollar store tissue was stinkin' cute - it included slightly raised Christmas sayings. The store sample looked like it was two thicknesses of the cord braided, but I chose the single strand. I've not decided on a sentiment yet and will wait 'til it's called upon for a card to do that! We were provided chipboard and DP cut into rectangles, small squares of tissue, cord, and card stock cut to size. Easy peasy to recreate ... I'll be making lots more of these cuties! Thanx, Jill!

autumn splendor

This card's the result of a weekend outing where my stampin' buddy Pat and I took in a make- 'n-take at my fav local paper crafting store, Capture-a-Memory. The lovely and talented Jill led us in making a couple projects - today's card and a tube containing goodies w Halloween poem tag. Tho' it looks pretty brown in this picture, the card stock background is more like a dark cranberry, and the green sentiment is much darker IRL.

I loved the grunge stamp we used to "texturize" the card stock background using Versamark. The leaves were cut from multicolored DP using one of the store's vast die collection, distressed, then some glued onto chipboard, others placed directly on the card base. If you purchase paper there, you're welcome to use their dies, and if you're a member, you get not only access to some member-only dies but discounts on all product. Using the Ellison machine at my youngest son's school had been one of my fav parts of being his Homeroom Mom in elementary school.

very few deets today - all supplies provided and I was too lazy to ask about them

if friends were flowers ...

... I'd pick you! Awwww ... cute, eh?! This is today's make-'n-take from the kind folkes at CAM (aka Capture-A-Memory, where I usually spend my midday Saturdays w my stampin' buddy Pat). It's sweet, and they usually have projects to showcase a particular technique or product. Today's featuring Martha's fringe scissors, which were used to make the grass in the card. Said product is usually offered at a discount on the days we use it for a make-'n-take. Today's sale also included the cute stamps used to make faces on the flowers and stamps used to make a 2nd card. The face stamps came in multiple styles and sizes - and were STINKIN' CUTE!

no deets today - as all products were provided by the shop.

what are ya ... a yellow pansy?!

sounded daring, didn't I?! here's my fav selection from the 2 cards we made at CAM's make-'n-take today. I chose to pencil in the flower in yellow and brown, but went over it with watercolor markers when I got home. I just don't have the knack my stampin' buddies do in coloring with pencils ... sigh! unlike the rest, I chose to leave out the inverted rounded edges - it just looked too fancy for my taste - and didn't knot the ribbon to appear as though it was tied around the stems. I did it my way (ode to Frankie)! and I'm not sure what this picture's supposed to represent ... think they're pansies?

no deets today; all materials were supplied by the shop, and I forgot to check so I could note them later. I DO know that we used a D'vine Swirls embossing folder, though.

it's all about honeycombs

Today's make-'n-take at CAM was to create this stinkin' cute honeycomb card. Toad-illy cute froggy on the outside ... BUT ... open it up and the cut-out shaped as a toadstool opens to create a 3D effect! In case you've not seen Inky Antics' Honey Pot collection in your travels, here's a link to their stamp sets AND a quick 4-minute video tutorial on the process.

stamps: Inky Antics' Frog HoneyPOP; paper: unknown green, white card stock, Inky Antics' Green Honeycomb paper pad; ink: unknown brown; accessories: brown/white dotted grosgrain ribbon

pinwheels

I used a pinwheel cut from designer paper using a die from CAM (Capture-A-Memory, a Flint-area paper crafting store I frequent) for today's card - that and complementary cardstock is all this CAS Easter card took, add a bit of ribbon, and voilĂ ! My final Easter card for 2011! Thanx, CAM! I needed that!

Those mailing their pinwheel cards flattened their pinwheels. Mine's being hand-delivered on Sunday - sigh, the only Easter cards that will be on time this year besides the eCards I try to send!

Hope you have a t'riffic Easter!

lessons from the Easter Bunny

Today's make -'n- take at CAM was this cutie patootie card and basket combo led by the lovely and talented Jill, who stamped lots of the sentiment in advance and kitted our packets. We were able to use some of the extra stamped sentiments to choose which pictures from the sentiment we popped up. I dunno if you can tell from the photo, but I popped up the bunnies and the carrot. We also used flocking, which I added to the large bunny on the basket, and to the tails of all the smaller bunnies on the matching card. To finish off the basket, we added "grass" and marshmallow bunnies. YUM! Mine's gone already ... I know, how'd THAT happen?! grins ...

all supplies provided by the lovely and talented Jill ... and I fought temptation and resisted purchasing the stamp, tho' it IS STINKIN' CUTE, eh?!

Happy Valentine's Day

Saturday's make -'n- take project at CAM were these cutie tubes that we filled w candy which I'm planning on giving my sons on Valentine's Day morning. I have two sons, so my stampin' buddy Pat was kind enough to make one and I made the other. Thanx, Jill, for the cute project!

it's all about pink

Today's card is from a make -'n- take that I went to at Capture-A-Memory in Flint MI. They hold an inexpensive deal most Saturdays that's free for store members and only $2 for non-members. Lately we're making two items - usually one's a card, and one's a project from one of their large assortment of dies. Today's project was a scalloped heart die made into a small candy holder. We attached ribbon to it and it's hanging in my living room. I figure it'll go to which ever of my boys notices it first!

I picked up some sparkly ribbon that I'd planned on using on a card today, and I don't know why, but I had trouble sleeping last night. Now I'm beat, so instead I'm gonna catch a cat-nap while my DH is out shopping w my youngest and my eldest is busy in his room watching a DVD. Catch ya later! Hopefully the spirit to be crafty will return tomorrow ...
